Biodiesel available in Byron Bay
There are only 5 outlets in Australia where biodiesel is available to the general public, and one of them just opened up in Byron Bay TODAY
Many of us have met Simeon and Anthony Michaels. For the last 2 years Anthony has been supplying fresh cooking oil to restaurants in the Northern Rivers. He has also been collecting the used cooking oil and sending it down to Newcastle to be manufactured into Biodiesel.
Today Anthony has “closed the loop” on his eco-system by bringing the biodiesel back up to Byron to be sold locally – congratulations Ants on your opening day.
Biodiesel is an environmentally friendly renewable fuel which has enormous advantages over diesel. It cuts pollution and greenhouse emissions by over 80%, is biodegradable if spilt on land or in water, and burns cleaner and lubricates better than diesel . It is suitable for use in any diesel engine – no modification is required, and you can blend it with the diesel that’s already in your fuel tank.. To fill up on biodiesel, just visit North Coast Cooking Oils: Unit 4, 7 Brigantine St in the Byron Industrial Estate. The Factory is located next door to Santos, across the road from the Byron Bay Cookie Company.
Opening hours are currently Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7-10am, and Wednesday afternoons from 3-6pm. As custom grows, opening hours will expand. If you’re not near Byron, Anthony can also arrange delivery of biodiesel in 200L drums with a pump attached. Larger deliveries can also be arranged.
And finally, Anthony is trying to show people that you don’t have to suffer financially for being green, and is selling Biodiesel for less than diesel. ($1.27 per Liter for biodiesel, diesel is 1.31/L)
