Jim,
Are you sure aboutthe list of characters accepted, I cant find my notes,
which is probably because I was writing them on the overhead, but my
memory was that we put in far more characters.
>From memory, I think the consensus was....
Characters used in european languages for something else were excluded
after much constructive discussion. i.e. { } | `
Characters with no significant syntactical meaning back in
i.e. : ; = ' "
I think the following characters were already in the draft or put back
in.
~ ! @ $ ^ & * ( ) - _ + [ ] . , ?
I believe that the following characters with semantic meaning within
URI's were either not in the draft, or eliminated in discussion.
\ < > %
I believe that # was put back in - over the objections from WWW who
use it for something specific.
I know that <space> was put back in! With the qualification that any
amount of white space is considered equivalent, so quote it if you use
multiple spaces within a URL.
Again - please correct me if I've misremembered, I'm not advocating this
list, but think it was the result of the remarkable consensus achieved.
