A lot of people have been using the ISODE/Quipu free implementation for
several years now. I know of at least a couple sites that are making
major use of it, e.g. University of Michigan has the entire staff and
student directory online using Quipu, and aggressively developed and
deployed simple clients to use it. So I don't think I'd agree with the
above assessment.
