InterCom Interconnects All Comserve Hotlines,
Provides Efficient Method for
Distributing Announcements of General Interest
Comserve's hotline system consists of (a) a suite of more than 25
public hotlines supporting free discussion in areas of communication
scholarship and education, (b) four one-way news channels, and (c)
fourteen private hotlines. Most individuals subscribe to five Comserve
hotlines; therefore, many are likely to be inconvenienced if copies of
an announcement are sent to multiple hotline addresses. This problem
can be avoided by using the InterCom channel when you wish to distribute
announcements of general interest.
The InterCom channel ties together all public Comserve hotlines,
providing a way to reach most of Comserve's 7,000 member user community
with a single note (a message to InterCom reaches approximately 6,000
individuals). If you wish to announce a conference, issue a call for
papers, or distribute other information that might be of general
interest to scholars and students in fields related to communication,
rhetoric, mass communication, journalism, social linguistics, etc., send
it to Comserve's staff at Support@rpitsvm (Bitnet) or
Support@vm.its.rpi.edu (Internet) and request that it be distributed
over InterCom.
For a list of all other Comserve public hotlines that are available,
send this command to Comserve at the address given at the top of this
