$ I specifically didnt propose in the scenario using the TXT record or whatever
$ in the DNS. The scenario uses DNS for looking up URN->URC servers in the
$ manner it has always been used for servers, i.e. a CNAME record, with the
$ huge advantage that a simple call to "gethostbyname" will find you
$ a server without knowing any of the esoterics of DNS.
Sure, but what I'm saying is that we can add an extra level of
indirection which doesn't impose a huge strain on the DNS, lets
us do useful things with URNs right away, and gives us some
breathing space for the future!
Furthermore, there's no reason why URN resolution has to take a
multi-protocol approach. It just so happens that this falls out
of the woodwork when you use URLs to point at the URN-> servers.
$ Since many people who administer information systems dont administer DNS,
$ this also has the advantage of being the kind of request that someone
$ can easily make of their DNS administrator.
Hmm... I think this is bogus. Provided your nameserver supports
TXT RRs, whether you're putting in a TXT RR or a CNAME, it's still
just a matter of adding one line to the domain details!
