Rather than adding "file" or "directory" to the URL, perhaps this could
be designated by the absence or appearance of a final "/"?
as in:
ftp://host.name/binary/pub/docs/ [directory]
ftp://host.name/binary/pub/docs/README [file]
Would this be ambiguous on some systems?
David
