I wouldn't confuse FNS with the URI activity. Federated Naming is just
another name service interface, except that it's a sort of meta-name service
which provides access to all buzzword-compliant name services. It's targeted
at the "global enterprise" but makes no attempt to be universal, except to the
extent that universal X.500 or other naming services may ever arise. If
you're interested, I have some SunSoft white papers from a Developer's Release
of Solaris.
